What to Expect When You Come to Church on Sunday
We hope you will join us for our worship services and other activities on Sunday morning. Our worship service is at 9:00 a.m. Sunday school, Adult Bible class, and our high school age youth meet at 10:30 a.m. to study God’s Word, the Holy Bible, and other topics that are of concern to Christians today.
Our worship services generally follow the Orders of Service provided in our hymnal, the Lutheran Service Book. You can find this hymnal in the rack in the pews. Our singing of parts of the Orders of Service and hymns is generally accompanied by organ music. We celebrate Holy Communion on the First and Third Sundays of the month. Our Orders of Service provide structure to turn our attention in reverence and prayer away from ourselves to God’s ministry to us through His Word in Christ and Christ’s Sacrament of Holy Communion. Our Orders of Service are full of God’s Word at every turn and faithfully teach us the Christian faith.
If you are new to our church and a traditional Lutheran worship service, please do not hesitate to ask our greeters, our ushers, or any of our members sitting next to you in the pew for help getting oriented. Please also be sure to ask our ushers for any handouts that provide information regarding our worship service for that day.
There is no dress code expected at Emmanuel. Some of our male members wear jeans and a shirt, some wear business casual, and some wear a suit and tie. Some of our female members also wear jeans or slacks and blouse or other top, while others may wear a dress or more formal business attire. Our overall advice is to dress in a manner that is comfortable for you, appropriate, and also respectful of others.
If you are attending our worship service on a Sunday when we are having Holy Communion and you are not a communicant member in good standing of another congregation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, we respectfully ask that you refrain from coming to Holy Communion until you have had an opportunity to speak with our pastor. The reason for this is that we believe according to the Bible that participating together in Holy Communion is the highest expression of church unity in what we believe and teach about the Christian faith. We want you to become aware of and affirm what we teach and hold to about the Christian faith before communing with us. Speaking with our pastor will provide the opportunity to explore these things.
